Business process transformation – in other words, changing existing business processes by implementing modern technologies – is increasingly becoming a focal point for businesses. By investing in new technologies, entire processes and workflows can be automated and elevated to a new level of quality.

One method of transforming business processes is by means of “digital twins.” This refers to the digital representation of physical products and systems, but also of processes. AI and machine learning can be used to simulate processes and gain new insights into them. The new method of information acquisition and distribution resulting from this leads to real and measurable added value for companies.

Artificial intelligence for efficient business processes

The use of artificial intelligence is not always as obvious as in the case of digital twins. According to Gartner, “Insight engines apply relevancy methods to describe, discover, organize and analyze data. This allows existing or synthesized information to be delivered proactively or interactively, and in the context of digital workers, customers or constituents at timely business moments.” The analyst firm evaluated 13 providers  in the “Magic Quadrant for Insight Engines 2018.”

 All available data sources, such as specialized applications, networks, cloud applications, archives, social media channels, and the like, are incorporated into the search, semantically analyzed, and potential correlations among the contents of the documents are recognized.  If a query is then made, the system displays exactly the context-relevant information and its correlations gleaned from all the sources in a clear and concise format. The patterns and constellations that become visible as a result typically lead to deep and comprehensive insights into the search term, a so-called 360-degree view. The system verifies the access rights for each query so that users always have the most up-to-date information within the scope of their access rights.

Intelligent search and knowledge management solutions enable business professionals to navigate the current landscape so clearly dominated by the fast pace of change. They ensure the cross-departmental exchange of knowledge and thus make it possible to make better use of the information already available within the company, to optimize processes, and to provide a sound basis for decision-making.
